Monkeys?
Just a random surfing tidbit... I ran across this thing about Monkeys while hunting for some free music. I just found the writing interesting. I don't know where this is going, but I'll watch it for a while, until it gets boring.

My Funny Bio
I saw a posting by Buzz Marketer Ron McDaniel about NOT blending in with everyone else, and how that is just a recipe for blandness. I've also read somewhere that bio's should always some funny or unique element to them, and I've tried to make sure that's true everywhere my bio appears, which is lots of places since I frequently speak to large groups. Nobody has ever told me my bio is unprofessional, but I do keep getting invited back, so I guess it's ok. Different is successful, not sameness.

France has it right - Jobs is evil menace
I hate proprietary systems. I think everyone has a right to make money, but the idea that you can invent something great (the original Mac), and then instead of just trusting that you've done a great thing and letting people buy as much of it as possible.. you hoard it... that's just greedy and mean. It's also Steve Jobs' modus operandi. So hail to the French, they don't deserve quite all the abuse we heap on them. Apple has characterized this move as a precursor to state sponsored piracy.
Jeez Steve, take a valium... they're telling you to let other people use your DRM, not open it up. Or perhaps you didn't actually read the press releases. Maybe you just think that anyone using the words iPod or iTunes in a paragraph without your permission is godlessness enough. Idiot.
No correct that. You're not an idiot, because you have phenomenal taste and design great stuff. You're an evil menace.

No Presentation At All
I just gave a speech to about 100 University engineering students. When I started studying engineering myself back at the turn of the century (the last century, not this one)... we still programmed Fortran on punchcards. Actually, it was 1982, but it felt like the turn of the century. Back then, there was no powerpoint, no whiteboards, and no Seth Godin blog.
When I went to the podium (yesterday), the professor who had invited me to speak on the subject of networking asked me where my laptop was. When I said I didn't have one, he asked, "then how are you going to do the presentation?" I looked at the chalkboard, and said - that'll do just fine. He looked slightly hesitant, but then said, "Well, it will be good for the students to see a different sort of presentation." Wow. A different sort of presentation. He even warned me that since most of the students were freshmen, that I'd have to work a bit to engage them.
Well, the speech was a success, the students were engaged, and all without Powerpoint, which frankly, only serves to make adequate speakers truly mediocre. I've banned Powerpoint at my own company. If you can't make the point with your hands and a bit of chalk (or marker), then get out of my office.

Check out the Audioblog
Now that I'm becoming something of an expert at pointing people to things and counting, you should check out the Audiobook Blog that Ninjakitten just started writing. It's not that good right now, but does talk about some good audio books. And I'm sure it will get better once she's had a chance to nap. Or something.

Well well, that wasn't so hard was it?
Well, to nobody's surprise (I hope), the test worked. My Alexa rating is now 1,042,276. I haven't quite broken a million yet, but I'm sure it will happen shortly.
If I get back to actively using this web site, I'll see if I can get the rating down below 100,000. That'll take actual work :)
